Two subjects were discussed. First was the presentation about the progress of the Wellness Clinic. Second was the status of the Equestrian Center.

Key points regarding the Wellness Center. It will be built in the west side of the existing Fire Station. It is to be inside the current building, not an addition as had been rumored in the past. It will have three exam rooms, a Lab and restroom. The Conditional Use Permit for this Clinic should be approved by 10/18/02. (The area is zoned residential, so a Use Permit is required.) Building permits are next.

The Clinic is a cooperative agreement with Interfaith Community Health Clinic in Bellingham, the Fire District and the Pioneer Group (a group established here to create the clinic.) The clinic's operating expenses will be funded for three years by a Government grant. It is expected to be self supporting thereafter. No tax money will be used for and no taxes will be imposed for the Clinic.

The clinic will be open to anyone for regular medical requirements or emergencies. It will take Medicare, Medicaid, US medical insurance, and Canadian's money. (A Canadian patient will have to pay the clinic, retrieve their expenses from the Canadian health scheme.) The clinic will be staffed by Virginia Lester, an Advanced Registered Nurse (this formal designation is essentially an MD equivalent w/o some surgical credentials) two days per week. A moderate supply of drugs will be stored for quick availability. Ongoing supplies can be mailed to the patients. The clinic can be open by February 2003 on a nominal schedule. However, the building improvements will cost $65,000. The Pioneer Group is short $30,000. Your contributions are important.
