NEXUS: DHS official loosen food regulations
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is now allowing NEXUS
commuters to transport more than just a personal meal through the NEXUS
lane. Commuters can transport food as if they are crossing in a regular
lane, but must declare all of their items. DHS officials lifted the rule
last month, now operating the same as Canadian NEXUS rules concerning food.
In the past, a number of NEXUS members have had their cards revoked for
transporting produce across the border - sometimes just an apple or an
orange. The NEXUS program allows frequent border travelers to utilize
special lanes for easier border crossing. Users must complete a background
check.
